News: Past, Present, and Future

2018 Fall Perks

Oct. 10:  M.J. (Al) Albacete will present  a program on Miss Liberty, Statue of Liberty.  A Past Director of the Canton Museum of Art and an adjunct professor at Kent State Stark teaching art history and architecture are just two of his memorable achievements. Come hear of his affection for and his love of the Statue of Liberty.

Nov. 7: Local historian Richard Haldi will discuss the Ohio and Erie Canal from the years of 1825 to 1913. Known as Ohio’s first "super highway", this 300-mile ditch, hand-dug one shovel full at a time, stretched from the Ohio River to Lake Erie. Considered an engineering feat before its time, it catapulted Stark County into the national spotlight.

FOL announces two scholarship winners!

  • Ann Pukansky (left), Manager of the East Canton Branch, will begin her practicum at Kent State University this coming fall.  Pukansky looks forward to studying in a different environment.
  • Kim Olexa (right) appreciates the opportunities she receives as she moves from one area to another and  learns more about the library in every department.  Her interest in further schooling fuels the desire to help her children with their school-related tasks and library patrons with their questions and requests. .

Our 2018-19 Officers

Mary Anna Kling, Secretary; Kathleen Kling, President; Louise Moore, Treasurer; Joellen Esber, Vice-President, took office at the FOL Annual Meeting.
